Tim Murphy retired from the Albany Police Department in 2003 after 32 years of service to the City. He worked as a Detective in various capacities and, in the latter part of his career, was assigned to provide security for Mayor Jerry Jennings. Tim thoroughly enjoyed his work and, most of all, he enjoyed enduring friendships with the many great people he encountered along the way. After his retirement, he worked as an independent security consultant and was contracted as Director of Security and Threat Assessment for the Port of Albany.

In January 2005, Tim was diagnosed with Stage IV gallbladder cancer. At that time, Tim's younger daughter, Kate, was in her junior year at Siena College. It was a comfort to Tim as he battled his illness to know that Kate would be able to finish her studies and graduate from Siena with her class.

Tim was very proud of his family and pleased with the educational opportunities that he worked so hard to provide for each of his daughters.

In honor of Tim, the Timothy J. Murphy Scholarship was established in his memory to provide financial assistance to worthy students.

The Timothy J. Murphy Foundation is a 501(c) (3) Not-for-Profit corporation.
